Artist Roger Ensign

I am a lifelong Michigander currently residing in Spring Lake. Art has always been a part of my life, not so much what I do as a reflection of who I am. It’s not a thing, it’s a process that has involved a lifetime drifting between periods of silence and awakening – constantly changing and evolving. I love nature, constant change, expression, speaking to us in its own complex simplicity. How does one feel and express this perfection in a way others can appreciate? This is the challenge that drives me. I work in several different areas artistically, pastels, watercolors, pencil. But my passion is coasters, not so much as a functional item as the challenge of expression utilizing natural materials. My canvas is natural travertine stone with each item individually hand painted, the combination of which gives each its own unique personality, no two are ever exactly alike – functional artwork suitable for the finest home.
